Tank Stand

I'm building my stand for my 38 gal. I've looked at other people's build and saw some use Styrofoam between the tank and stand. Is this necessary?

I've got 1" Styrofoam but prefer not to use it.

It is not necessary....especially if the top is plywood, or something similar. And if I were to use it, certainly not 1 inch thick styrofoam. More like 1/4 inch or there about.
