Hello everyone,

A few months back I lost my 65 gallon reef to a major crash overnight. $2,000+ of coral gone in an instant. It sat fallow for a while before I broke it down and put the fish in a 20 gallon holding tank. I really miss my coral though so I started looking at upgrade options.

My first idea was to build a 75 with external bean animal and nice equipment. I realized that with all the equipment and building the stand I would be in the price point range of a pre built system (Red sea or waterbox), and honestly I'm pretty burnt out on building things and I want it to look really nice.

After checking out my LFS I really liked the looks of the reefer 300xl, and thought I was sold.

While I've been pondering the idea for a few weeks, I'm very concerned about having a rimless tank in an earthquake prone area (Anchorage, AK) Do you guys think its a bad idea or know of any pre built tank set ups that have euro bracing? I know the Larger red sea reefers and Nuvo Tanks have euro bracing but I'm trying to stick in the 50-100 gallon range.

Thanks for the input, I feel like im loosing my mind going back and forth so much

Being in a earthquake prone area I would definitely recommend going with the euro bracing since it reduces splashing and doubles as a nice resting area for fish food and so forth.
Keep in mind though that light mounts will be harder to use most of the time unless you plan on hanging them from the ceiling or attach extention brackets to the stand and your open access space to work in the tank/place prebuilt aquascapes becomes limited as well.
I think sca makes prebuilt euro braced aquariums mostly but personally i would look more local via lfs

Thanks for the reply, I was looking into the Innovative Marine tanks. Sadly the smallest one they offer with Eurobracing is the 112, and i personally dislike the cube shape.

Unless anyone has other ideas of tank manufactures it looks like custom is the only way to go. Talk about some $$$$

Well another option would be to get your rimless Red Sea tank and add a Eurobrace yourself. A local glass shop should be able to cut the glass and polish it for relatively cheap. And you can silicone it yourself :)

Here in Australia, Waterloo do custom one piece eurobrace for their tanks. You would have to check if that is available in your area.

SC Aquariums, even though the 75 Gallon doesn’t have Euro-bracing. Their larger aquariums do, so they maybe able to custom brace an Aquarium for you. One thing I don’t like about most 75 gallon, is they are 18” Front to Back. With the Live Rock it doesn’t leave much room from the Live Rock to the front, for swimming room. The SC 75 Gallon is 24” Front to Back.
