Thanks my biggest question is at what point should I chip off the encrusted corals?

I got as much of my tank water into the tub with some rocks that didn't have anything on them & then started to move corals on rock in a bucket to get them into the room with the big tub, once i moved the corals then finished removing any leftover rock I moved the fish. my corals were about halfway in the DT so I was able to move quite a bit of the water.

You could also use a angle grinder with a diamond disk and just cut under the encrusted part. Maybe fine cut with a Dremel under it
