Thoughts on cycle going from a 40gallon breeder to a IM100ext. I am in the process of doing a tank swap I will be adding additional dry Marco rock 30lbs and dry crushed coral. I’d like to move all existing rock 40lbs and bio media with water from my established 40 into this tank. However I’m going to need to add a substantial amount of new water will this cause a new cycle? I’d add turbo start as well but curious on risk factor. Only have 2 clown and fire fish with cuc for livestock but want to minimize loss.

Should be fine. Don’t transfer the sand and your new tank will not cycle in the traditional sense. The bacteria in your live rock will still be able to handle your existing bioload and the dry rock will seed with beneficial bacteria over time. You’ll experience the uglies in the new rocks but it’ll likely be attenuated as the maturation process will be more natural than if you had all new rocks with bottled bacteria. Show us pictures when you’re ready!
