Hey Guys,

I did a tank swap from a rectangular 40 gallon to an 60 gallon cube. I try adding the biggest amount of water from the 40 g and sump successfully, just added 20 g of water to complete the 60 gallons for it. My fish right now are in the QT. I was afraid of loosing either of them because of the change. I did a test yesterday with the API test kit and the results are:

PH - 8.4
Ammonia - .25 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 5 ppm
Salinity -1.023 ppm
Temperature - 74 F

I have read that the API kit ammonia reading isn't that accurate sometimes. So my question would be, do you think that the Nitrate would affect any fish?

I have another 75g that has been cycling since January and yesterday I did a test too and so far this are the results:

PH - 8.4
Ammonia - .25 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate- 10 ppm
Salinity - 1.024
Temperature - 75F

Same question for this tank too. Do you think that the Nitrate would affect any fish?

Thanks,

Nitrate at normal levels will not harm fish. During cycle process it is often used as an indicator that the nitrifying bacteria are etablished enough to begin adding fish. Go slow, add multiples if they are small. Allow a week or so between substantial fish additions

That NO3 level is fine. if the equipment & rocks from old tank were also moved into new tank and water parameters are same in 40g & 60g, then it would be fine to add fish into new tank. All the beneficial bacteria reside in equipment/pipe & rock.

I had the same question is safe to move a 20 gallon to a 70 gallon with the rock and equipment i have in the 20 *( the 20 gallon equipment is good for the 70 )? Cause i cant run 2 tank at the same time and i have no quarantine

What equipment do you have?
