So living in Jersey the past few weeks the weather has been great and hot!
My house is very shaded so I don't get sun pouring in but it is still very warm.
I run my a/c in the living
room where the DT and the QT are and BOTH the tank temp naturally runs at about 78, to 79+
If I don't run my a/c it goes to 80 + Both! Even the QT with less equipment!
I don't have a chiller for my DT and Over time I see I may have to invest in one. (Apex and UV was on my priority list) I may need one for next summer..

How high is too high? other than the obvious, is 80/81 degrees ok? The temp does drop at night.

80/81 should be fine. Naturally temps swings up in the ocean during day and down at night. Definitely invest in the Apex, that's the first piece of equipment that you should lay out cash for.

...as you can see from above 76-83 F is recommended, most try to keep the drift down to +/-2 degrees for stabilities reasons.

In the summertime my tanks swing from 80-usually 82 but have seen 83-84 with no ill effects. The ocean doesn't stay a constant temperature.

Thank you everyone! Very true about the ocean swings.. Guess its totally natural.

Do you have the actual Apex brand? The Jr? or reg? And what to you like the best? I have seen other brands. Some seem cheaper but I don't know if it will suffice for my needs. There are many options but just like I did with lighting, I purchased a cheaper light and had to replace with a better one! I want to get (1) type of monitor but would like not to spend 500.

I have an apex. The standard package. Its the best investment besides my skimmer. I would advise checking the forums for sale sections. I picked up my apex used for 400. Buddy of mine got his for 300 used.

The standard brings the controller, energy bar 8, ph and temp probes. System has lots of room for growth.

Unfortunately unless you find a used one. You will be in the 500 territory. But like i said and im sure everyone with an apex can vouch for. Its cheap insurance if you plan on keeping expensive corals
