I know there’s a lot of information out there on what to push your tank temperature at . In my case I have the Neo Thermo heaters if I set them at 78 it’s been running around 79 . The only other option they have is 76 so I’m assuming you’re probably run around 77 or so .

To save a little energy would 77 work for a reef aquarium ? Even 76 if it hits the low ?

Thanks !

I have mine set to 76.5 +/- 0.5 and everything is growing fine, maybe a little slower than if it was higher but still growing. So I don't see an issue with it.

If you feel it’s growing slower why not bump up the temp? Just curious

Straight cash homie. The incremental cost to raise my temp 2 deg in the winter almost doubles the heater usage and I have 400w of heaters in my tank. I still have noticeable growth in my tank. I get about 1-2 zoanthid polyps per week and the acans look great. I get a head on them about every 2-3 months. My lonely sps Superman monti grows pretty steadily. I’m happy with growth I’m seeing and paying more for a little faster if I would even get any faster isn’t worth it to me.

STR8 Cash lol to funny. I moved mine down to 76 hope it stays around 77

Can I put a heater in my corner overflow compartment? Is that a thing? Trying to spread my heaters around.

You have to be able to make sure it stays submerged. As long as that can happen I say go for it. If the heater doesn’t stay submerged you can burn it up and bad things will happen

I have a lot of room and a few feet of water. The sickroom cups are strong so I don’t see it coming up. I’ll just keep it under what level it hits when I turn off my return pump

I keep mine higher for the opposite reason. Cheaper to warm the house than to cool it. My smaller tank doesn’t have a chiller and the big one just adds to the AC burden

IME anything between 75-86 is OK, just as long as it doesn't reach these peaks & valleys quick. GL.

Hey, i have the neo therm 75w and it runs at about 79.5 when set to 78. I was thinking of lowering the set point down to 76 as well. Let me know what your new temp is when you get a chance!

I don't have a chiller in the summer it's at room temperature usually 77 to 80

Some times the AC freezes and it goes to 84. I got a good deal on a chiller used anyways :)
If you can get a deal on one have at it. I always seem to miss out on them or the unit looks like trash.

FYI if your AC freezes you don't have enough air flow over the coil or You are a bit low on the coolant charge. You probably need to clean the coil or if that doesn't do it add a pound of coolant.

We got it working better since last year. Turns out all the coils on the outside unit were covered in dog hair... covered O.o
