I want to run my Nuvo 14g at 77f, I have the heater in the middle compartment and the temp probe in the overflow (first compartment) where it reads 76.1 is this an acceptable loss of heat?

It’s going to be an LPS tank.

I’m not sure if the temp you wish to run the tank at is taken at the heater or when it is returning to the heater.

Your setup should be fine. If you take the temperature multiple times a day, you will find that it will rise and fall, usually within a +/- 1 degree range of your heater setting. If your heater is set to 77, and the coldest it gets is 76.1, you should be fine. You could also raise the temp to 78-79 to keep the low end up a little more. That is what I would recommend.

The heater is a Eheim thermopreset so can’t be raised, it’s set at 77f, should I swap it for a standard heater?

A tank at 76 is fine for most livestock.
78-79 would be better. It would also allow more leeway in case something happens and your house is colder than normal.

I’ll swap it then, shame as it seems a very stable heater.

Just to add, I think inkbird needs calibrating, might be reading low, as I have now checked different locations in the tank, when the probe is in the same compartment as the heater it’s showing 76.1 surely it should be reading 77f in there, same for the overflow and return compartments 76.1, in the display the tank is reading 75.4f.

Can I just check as my spare heater is bigger, is it safe to have the heater up against a bag of siporax as the compartment is a tight fit?

The heater uses water as passive cooling. As long as water is flowing around the heater it will be fine. If its too much of prob go with the Eheim thermopreset

I scuba dive in the Caribbean. Water temps on healthy corals reefs (which are hard to find because of climate change, over fishing and pollution) range from 68 degrees to 82 degrees. 77 degrees is fine. I run my tank at 77.6 to 78.2.

Thanks for that, I’ve ordered a thermometer, as I think the inkbird is slightly off, if it is I think I’ll put the thermopreset back in as it’s a better size for the tank.
It’s winter now, if the lowest the temp goes is 76.1f then I should be ok.

Checked with a thermometer if the inkbird reading was correct, it read exactly the same as the thermometer, I am also very impressed at how stable the heater/inkbird kept the tank, the difference throughout the whole tank was only 0.1c.
