I recently got a 13.5 nano tank and it came with a heating light and night time blue light. I’m new with these kinds of tanks and I’m worried that with the heater I put in and the heat of the lamp that the temperature will rise to high. I don’t think the light is supposed to be a primary source of heat, so I’ve been keeping it on the blue light due to it not producing heat. The tank is in the basement, so it’s often colder. So if the light doesn’t stop heating I’m nervous that temp will get too high. What should I do?

You'll have to keep an eye on the temp with the light until you get a good feel for it. Also can vary with house temperature. If you have a decent heater (and always recommend a controller - even a black box one - Bayite off Amazon one lasted me for 5 years - $30 or so) it'll be off during high temp times.

If your light takes it above 81-82 then you may want to reduce time, or drop house/room temp a bit.

Blue lights are fine too, just make sure the corals look healthy so they're getting the right spectrum.

why do you think thats a "heating " light...just appears to be an led fixture...which produce less heat than any other type...

I have the same tank. I keep my heater at 77 and it doesn’t turn on unless the temperature in the tank goes below that. I also keep my home at 76 all day until night when I drop it to 72. The temperature in the tank only fluctuates between 76-77. I’ve never had issues when a few times it’s gone to 78. That light fixture does give off a good amount of heat, not sure why but it doesn’t heat my tank up too much. I run the whites from 9:45-4:50 wind up and wind down about 10 minutes. Then blues on from 5-10:30. Then off through the night. Im also very new so this is just what I’ve been doing but I am not an expert in any way.

If you’re concerned about the heat a light is adding- install a fan that pushes the heat from the light away from the tank. Also consider a fan pointed at the water; it will evaporate more water (need more ro) but it will push the water temp down.
