My tank is 210 gallons and it is currently fishless as I just recently set it up, when I set up my heaters I accidently set them too high, i turned them off so the tank can become a bit cooler but for some reason the tank doesnt seem to drop past 80 degrees which is weird because I keep my house at around 72 degrees and the heaters are off so nothing could be heating it up, does anyone know why this might be, my guess is that since its a large tank it takes a while to drop some degrees but any other theories are welcome.

Could be that. Could also be your pumps are heating the water. I had heat issues when I use to use the old Magdrive pumps.

how did you resolve it, you just got new pumps?

Yes.

What I would do if I was you, I would shut my return pump off for several hours, and just let the gyres on. And see if that drops the temp. If that drops the temp then you know it is your return pump.

Just out of curiosity, what are you using as a return pump?

I am using two hydor seltz 2400 pumps, they are brand new but ill definitely give that a try

The equipment is probably heating up your tank. You can attach a small fan on top of your tank for surface agitation and to expedite evaporation. It will cool down the tank instead of having to turn off the pumps

I have fans in my sump running 24/7 but i wouldnt be able to put them on top of my tank because I have no place to place it, I dont have a canopy and my lights block it too since i have them on a rack.

I have a 210...thats a lot of mass to cool down..with pumps running it might take a lil while depending on your ambient temp.

yeah its only been like 2 days and the temperature I had it at previously was 86, this was due to me not having a reliable thermometer, the one I had was old and broken, good thing I had a hunch and bought a new thermometer, now the temp is around 79.5 so hopefully it keeps dropping over the next few days.

Is the tank next to a window?

Is the tank next to a window?

it is next to a window but the window remains shut and has blackout shutters so no light penetrates it, and also I have a terrace outside the window which also prevents sun and heat from getting in. And its not right next to the window it is close to it but about 3 feet off.

Does the temp vary from 1pm to 11pm? Or is it the same at both times? May still be getting ambient heat from the sun?

I havent seen a change in temp during those times but ill definitely keep a closer eye out, but from when I have checked it stays constant.
