Hi, I have a Biocube 29 that has been running for a year. I want to drill out the bulkhead fitting in chamber 3 so I can add a new one. I don’t think I can drill it out well the tank is full, correct me if I am wrong as that would be easier. If not will it cause a cycle if I move everything or to another Biocube 29. Everything will be the same.

Thanks Andrew

If theres room to get the drill in there you can drill it while in operation. Just drain enough water. You are drilling plastic right, so it should be quick.

This would be considered a rip clean.
I would use it as a 100% water change.
If you have a sand bed that is.
Do not rinse anything in fresh water though, use the old saltwater to do this.

Will the plastic shards cause any issues to the tank? I can lower the water and fit a drill in.

So move everything over and then add new water?

Put a coffee filter or a filter sock up/around the work area. Also, most plastic shards tend to float, so it’s easy to scoop them up with a net or something.

Otherwise, plastic shouldn’t be a problem. Fish might nip it, but they usually spit them out.

Cool, thanks everyone. I Will just drill. Much easier then moving everything over.

if you want to see thirty pages of combining and moving tanks with no loss or cycle, so you can access yours without the rocks and sand in it, seek out the official sand rinse thread, not one recycle or mini cycle event in 5 yrs. you'd apply its takedown/cleaning/reassembly flow to get the same results.
