Tank too full

Having a lower tank volume (lower than touching the plastic brace) is a good thing if anything gets in your overflow or something clogs it up or if something blocks it I see you have screens over your down tubes over flow is an issue an well the tank was not designed to have the water lever that high.

Ahhh I see that makes sense. Doesn’t give me much wiggle room before I start dumping water on the floor. I have a 1/2” gap between the plastic and the water now, how much lower should I shoot for?

My math is that’s about 2 1/2 gallons, which is probably similar to the water in my return pump chamber

Too high! Unless you go softie tank. Even low main flow requires a good amount of in tank flow. Algae build up in weirs and you get wet floors!

You have 3 choices. Lower the box. Get a smaller return pump or put a valve on the pumps exit too restrict flow. Cut off some teeth.

The weir can only handle so much flow. The more flow the higher the back up against the teeth.
Or option 4, cut the weir teeth lower.
If you cut the box off and re - do it.. It never comes out as good as the first time you glued it.. In my experience.

I have a rimless and my water level is 3/4" from the top. I like it because my acrylic top fits inside the tank and does not touch the water.

Can't tell by picture but does your main drain (larger) need a vent? It is possible that drain is being choked off and not allowing the full
potential of water to flow through the pipe. How hi is your sump running?
