Hey guys, my temp on my tank has been creeping up with the addition of the refugium light and winter heat on in the house. It’s now 81°. (It’s an led but I guess still heating it up) It was a solid 79 over the summer. I was looking at chillers and they are 400-500$ Or more. My tank is 220g. What do you do to keep your tank cooler without a chiller? Trying to put a small Clip on fan on it for a quick fix but I’m worried about it falling in so I’d rather a better long term solution. The display tank is also lit with LEDs that have internal cooling fans and they are only on eight hours a day so I don’t really want to cut the lighting much more? Always something. Thanks!

I have fans on top of my canopy. But i also keep several water bottles frozen in case of emergencies.

How warm do u keep your house? I have halides and it only goes up to 81 for an hour or so at the highest in the summer.

I also shoot for 80-81 in my tank because I noticed the water in the Soith Pacific is very warm. No ill effects due to warm temp in my display.

We actually keep it cooler in the colder months. I think my wife has a polar bear somewhere in her family history. ;Woot Lots of folks will install a PC cooling fan or something similar into one side of the stand cabinet with a vent on the other side to keep air flow across the sump. I haven't tried it myself, but I've read where people have had success bringing down temp significantly that way.

I try not to let the house get over 78 in the summer. Occassionally itll get up to 80 if I'm not home to kick on the AC

We try to keep the house 71-73 but if we’re baking or it’s nicer out it gets warmer but maybe only a few degrees more. We def kept it 71 over the summer and the tank was still 79 with no heaters. Idk that’s the only thing that has changed lately besides the fuge led and I was surprised that would crank the whole tank up 3 degrees. So I’ll move the fan to the sump and maybe see if I can open up a side without the noise being an issue. My stylos aren’t dying after years (tank parameters good/stable) and originally I thought a crab was attacking them so I caught the crab but now I’m wondering if it’s the temp? Argh.
