How should I do the transfer so I avoid the uglies or shocking the fish? Could I reuse some of my old tank water and mix old sand with new sand?

Obviously I’d be using the same filter and rocks. May have to get another rock or two. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Don’t use the old sand unless you wash it really well. I’ve read threads here where it doesn’t turn out so good.
Got it. May just pick up some new sand. I used the carbisea live sand. Is there any benefit to that over pool filter sand? (Will that cause a diatom bloom because of silica?)

I read a thread here where they used pool filter sand with no problems but I also read it will cause diatoms in the same thread. I think the different sands all have their drawbacks. The filter sand is a lot cheaper for sure.

The thread was called “pool filter sand?” I don’t know how to do the link thing yet.

Don’t mix the sand and you could add new rock.
you can mix a cup of old sand with new sand to help seed the system. after this, either thoroughly rinse the old sand or throw it out.

Understood. Definitely gonna get some new sand. Caribsea or pool filter sand is the next question.
