We just started the TTM for our fish in order to ensure ich is completely gone and going fallow on the display as well.

In regards to the 10’ of spacing when going the TTM route. I understand none of the tanks should be within 10’ of the display. Can the smaller tanks being used for the transfers be set up in the same spot or do those also have to be 10’ even though they aren’t filled at same time? ie…. We set the first TTM tank on the dresser. When we go to do the first transfer, can the transfer tank also be kept on the same dresser or does it have to be set up 10’ from the original?

thanks in advance.

The distance is not a hard and fast "10 foot rule" although it is often presented like that. The variables to take into consideration is the amount of aerosolization that can take place: is the infected tank covered? Does it have lots of spray being produced? Are the other tanks above or below the infected tank?

Here is an article I wrote recently on biosecurity:

Biosecurity, perfect term, Lol.

I keep my TTM tanks about 6’ away from each other roughly at the same height along with covers for each. I take an oscillating fan and place it on the empty tank to really dry it out good. Its my understanding that nothing can survive a tank that’s completely dry. This has worked to great success for me.

The infected tank is not covered, but very little spray. The TTM tanks are both covered other than a little 2 in x 3 in cut out.

we have a couple in other rooms all together. When we do the first transfer just before the 72 hours, can we place the tank right where the other one was?

Wow! Never knew this was a thing!

Yes, that seems fine.
