I’ve got 3 dispars and 2 wrasses, hoevens and a Xmas, coming to my door Tuesday. Im new to anthia and wrasses. I’m familiar with QT but I’d like to try the TTM with these new guys. I’ve never done TTM but I’ve read on it until my eyes bleed. I have a couple of silly questions...

Can I TTM all five in a 5gallon bucket w/ fresh sand for the wrasses? Is a bucket even ok?

Should I have them eating before I start the TTM?

Or should I just QT as usual with 2 rounds of prazi and a week in copper?

a 5g bucket seems a little small for 5 fish IMO. for doing all at once I'd personally go with a 20g long tank, or two 10's.

I used to do TTM religiously and never waited for them to be eating before starting it. Since there is no medication there really is no, or at least very little comparatively, stress.

Keep in mind that TTM (in the traditional use) only helps with Ich, not Velvet. There is theory that you can do TTM for Velvet prevention but requires a lot more transfers, and the experts give caution on it. Velvet has a huge presence in the hobby lately, so strongly consider this in your choice of QT method.

I personally recommend Copper Power or Chloroquine Phosphate, plus General Cure (contains Metro and Prazi). I will return with some links to read on this approach, copy/paste from a post I just made.

Couple other useful reads and helpful links:
Chloroquine vendor: https://store.nationalfishpharm.com/items/view/616/chloroquine-phosphate
@Humblefish How-To QT: https://humble.fish/quarantine/

In Humblefish's write-up go to where it says 'Option B' and strongly consider this route. It combines Copper or Chlorquine with a single Tank-Transfer to significantly decrease the time period that the fish must be exposed to the chemical.

Humblefish recommends to medicate every fish with both Copper or Chloroquine, and then also General Cure. This will eliminate almost everything you need to be concerned about.

Thank you for the reply spar. I HATE using meds but it sounds like it’s the route to go. Plus I’m familiar with it, just not with anthias and wrasses. Nothing a quick google search won’t fix.

So I normally use cupramine and prazi on tangs and others but it sounds like there is a new approach to QT meds. General cure and copper power huh? I’ll do some reading up. I still have a few days.

Anyone else wanta chime in? Please do!

If you do go with copper power, try and get a Hanna High Range copper checker.
Makes life so much easier when dealing with copper.

Just a FYI, chloroquine phosphate cannot be used on wrasse. Here's some good information to read to help you choose what to use.

Looks like I’m gonna try copper power and 2 rounds of prazipro. I have prazi on hand but will have to order the copper power off amazon

Humblefish has also theorized a new hybrid ttm that I'm thinking of trying in the near future, it utilizes two doses of hydrogen peroxide with the ttm to eliminate all parasites and external worms. He has not tested it as of yet but thinks it will probably work

So doing some more reading and thinking, copper power seems ok for the wrasse but not for the anthias. Looks like coppersafe by mardel is the go to for anthias.

So.....coppersafe or copper power in the QT?

Humble has actually developed a "hybrid" method that uses hydrogen peroxide baths and TTM in combination that so far seem to be working. The hydrogen will remove velvet trophonts but not ich. So in theory the hydrogen peroxide takes care of velvet while the TTM outruns the ich cycle.

I ordered copper power off amazon. It will be here the day the fish arrive so I’ll give the guys a few days to settle in and raise salinity before adding the CP. I’ve read with anthias to just raise the levels over 5-7 days.

Any other instruction I need to know about QT anthias and wrasses? I’ve only done clowns and tangs.

I saw his write up about this the other day and I'm thinking of trying it soon, have you tried it yourself yet?

I would treat wrasses and anthias the same in copper. They do need to be eating well before ramping up to therapeutic level. They should be fine around the 1.0ppm level to get eating well.

Some of the deepwater anthias species seem to dislike copper more. So the eating well and the slow ramp should combat the issue.

I'm lazy ;)

I prefer copper treatment. I have my system and it works well, only involves a single transfer. I have a dirty side and clean side in my basement with several tanks. So adding more to run TTM is just not appealing. I have used the hydrogen baths on fish with much success.

+1 this is why I’ve never tried the TTM.

I’m gonna stick to copper and prazipro. Thanks for all the replies. You guys are the best
