Angel in QT before utilizing the TTM

Well here is my experience and I would like to tell you all first hand that it was a success.

I purchased a venustus angelfish from a reputable online vendor. When it arrived, I placed it in QT and was going to see how things went before assuming there was a parasite to deal with. Well at the 8 day mark, my venustus was showing symptoms of marine ich. It took 8 days for symptoms to appear once placed in QT. I did not utilize the TTM until these symptoms appeared in QT.

First things first, I was lucky in that my angel ate mysis from the get go.

Once I thought that ich was culprit, I immediately set up my equipment in order to try the tank transfer method (TTM). I used a 4 gallon plastic reptile hermit crab tank as one tank and a 5 gallon glass cube for the other thank. I followed the directions and made sure to transfer my angel before the 72 hour window. I transfered the fish about every 2.75 days and the ich was all gone by the 3rd transfer. I continued the transfer sequence until 14 days had past total. I then decided that all was clear and I placed the angel in my frag tank with my other venustus angel.

It has been a total of 15 days since the TTM and I am happy to say that he is healthy and eating very well. I noticed that he lost a ton of weight during the TTM but still ate. I assume the stress of me moving him every other day took a toll on him. Since TTM ended, he has filled out noticeable and continues to put on more and more weight every day. Very happy I used this method instead of using copper or other chemicals.

My angel now in frag display tank doing great after TTM

glad to hear it worked out so well for you!! I just started a TTM thread, maybe pop in and share some feedback. ;)

Im getting my first fish in this week(not first ever, first for this tank) and have been debating TTM for QT. seeing more positive experiences really helps.

Did you just observe in the original QT, before TTM or did you treat with prazi/etc? Also, now that the original QT has been exposed/contaminated with ick, whats your plan for it? leave it fallow for 76 days, break it down clean it and restart with new rock?

Awesome thats great to hear! I think one of the major determining factors in getting a fish through QT is a good specimen thats eating regularly. I really like TTM but one down side is the stress it creates for the fish. But I guess it's the lesser of two evils here for ich eradication...

The to see things worked out for you. Did you end up buying the purple elephant?

Great job! That's a beautiful fish too. Thanks for sharing your experience :D

My DT has not been exposed. All my fish go through QT first. I wanna get them eating. I don't do anything but maintain water quality and offer quality and variety diet in QT. If ich pops up on a fish, I would then utilize the TTM.
