Hello! I have been quite fortunate with my newer tank setup. I have had my current stock in there for roughly 8 weeks with zero issue/disease problems.

So then came today. Walked into my LFS. Saw a blotchy anthias, n just had to have it(ive been wanting one since my original tank like 10 years ago). I knew that any newcomers from this point, no matter how healthy looking, will go into quarantine. I just didnt think it would be a $300 fish. HAHA. My lfs is holding it for me for the next few days until i am ready to bring it home.

My plan is to do a tank transfer method with two sessions of prazi, followed by a 1-2 week qt in a 10g i have available.

I have two clean 5g buckets i will be using for ttm. my question is: i know many have used this method, but has anyone had bad experience with ammonia buildup? or used prime as a precaution? This will be my first time doing TTM, or even quarantine, so oddly, its giving me a bit of anxiety. my method of buying fish has always been just to buy from only a few trusted LFS, and only if there is zero sign of illness anywhere in their tanks.

Part of me feels that this may even be 'unnecessary', as they have been keeping it in their main show display tank in a breeder box, and not in their regular livestock tanks- if they are willing to keep the fish in their main display which contained MANY prized fish and corals, all of which are all extremely healthy, then maybe i dont have so much worry?

any input would help.

Doesn't hurt to be extra cautious when spending 300 dollars on a fish. Besides wouldn't want it to just go and die on you now would we?

very true. i suppose my biggest concern is something ******* up along the way during the TTM since ive never done one before. ...ammonia level, heater failure, etc.

Congratulations on your new fish!

I’ve done ttm many times now with no fatalities.
Ammonia isn’t a problem, just go light on daily feeding, and feed heavy right before changing buckets. If your paranoid add Prime last 24hrs.
The heater in a 5 gal bucket would be my main concern. I wouldn’t do it. Can you keep ttm bucket in your warmest room?
Put a screen on top of bucket just to be safe.
Make sure you have extra air stones and airline tubing. I pitch them each change out.

You got this!!!

Thanks! I have a two small heaters for nano tanks I purchased n have tested for consistency, n both run about 78 in a 5 gal bucket. I do have separate air pumps n hose n a handful of airstones.

Is there any particular reason I shouldn't run a heater? Temps in my room jump from the 50s-60s right now. N about the same in the rest of my house.

I see.
Well, with your house temp and history with using the heaters in 5 gal, sounds like you’ll be fine.
