Moving from a 29 cube to a 120. Tank is cycled, added some of the small fish to the new tank. They are doing great. It has about 120 lbs of live rock in it.

The new tank was setup with a filter sock that the overflow goes into, then a 2g refugium with chaeto that overflows. The sump is a 40g tank and has my G2 skimmer in it, heater, chiller pump and main pump.....etc..

Should I move the ceramic bio media or have any other filters in it? I had ceramic and chemipure elite in the old tank.

I feel like I'm missing something going from sponge type filters, carbon and filter floss to just a filter sock.

It really depends on how you want to set your tank up. the 120 will have more biological filtration from the added amount of live rock. But you will also add more livestock so the bio load will be heaver. I myself would move the ceramic bio media over if it was set up on the old system as it will have a healthy amount of bacteria already. Even if in the end you end up taking it off your system after the tank has been set up for a year. I would also add some carbon. Even if you run it passively in a mesh bag and not a reactor.

Id agree with that, harmless to move it. in counter offer though, I think if you didn't move the ceramic nothing would mind because ive never seen a reef tank using that much LR where any extra surface area was required to process all ammonia, Ive never seen external filtration make the difference between 0 detectable ammonia and 'some' so regarding bacteria, this too seems optional to move them within the ceramic. but since its harmless to do so, move em on over lol

If you stock your tank responsibly and go slow like you should be doing till it is fully up and running you would notice little difference. It would be more piece of mind in this case. If you don't have patience and stock quickly you might need the extra filtration as backup.
