Hey all,
I have a 75g that I am transferring into from a 29g.

I have tons of dry rock from the original owner of the 75 that is covered in dried algae. I plan to soak in bleach for a few days then tap/rodi water. I will be creating my scape with the intentions of fitting in my current rock into the new scape. I have a fuge that I would like to put some really cured rock from my LFS into as well. Do you guys think that I can run the tank with a few pounds of LFS rock, a bottle of turbostart and a new fish? Then add in my fish, rock, and coral from my current tank?

Thinking of a hardy fish like royal gramma.

If you have enough live rock in the 29 gal to process ammonia, you should be able to move it to the 75 and be good to go without adding any bacteria. Just add whatever rock you want to get your scape like you want

I agree with threebuoys.. if you move all your rock and livestock from your current tank to the new one it should be fine. I just did this…. I went from a 65 gallon to a 180 gallon a few months ago. I added new rinsed sand and new dry rock in addition to the rock and livestock from the existing tank. I did have some algae show up on the new dry rock and some diatomes on the sand but after a month or so it cleared up. I do have a heavy cuc and fish that help though.

I also set my lights to 50% lower par and worked them up 3-5% every few days until I got back to where I wanted them.

Clean up that 75 really well. You'll want a very clean environment to transfer to. New live sand and all your live rock then slowly add the dry rock to not shock your system. I've gone from fourty to 75 in the last two years.

I moved a 35 into a 120 in a day. New rinsed sand. All my rock and corals and some live rock that I had been cooking for 2 months in a brute trash can. Didn't have any issues. I personally would clean that rock like your planning let it dry for a week then put it in a garbage can with fresh saltwater. Do a couple water changes on your current tank and dump the old water in with your new rock to help seed it. Good luck

i think i might try to cycle the new tank first especially since i have virtually infinite time on my hands and am in no rush.
