I have recently restocked my tank after being fallow for several months. Have always done four 71hr tank transfers with prazi on the 2nd and fourth transfer for all the new fish. I do the transfers between two 20 gallon long tanks and then observe them in a 40 gallon for up to 2 weeks. I have a quoyi parrotfish and a lieutenant tang coming in the next few days. While reading about the difficulty keeping parrotfish long-term, I was horrified at all the stories of velvet in people's tanks. My QT protocol has been tank transfer for many years without problems. I thought I was being neurotic already.

Now, I am thinking I need to do a lot more.

Initially, I was planning to just add a 10 day course of chloroquine after the transfers as a secondline treatment. But would it be feasible to do the chloroquine with the tank transfers, as long as I switched from prazipro to API General Cure?

Sounds like an interesting idea. It's OK to use CP with General Cure. Let us know how the fish do. Hope you have a good supply of CP!

While I imagine it would work, treating for 14 days with CP should render the TTM unnecessary as long as you transfer to a new sterile observation tank after the 14 days. I had velvet knock out 9 of 12 fish over a year ago. Since my tank went fallow for 3 months, I've QT'd all fish using only CP this way. I always figured the TTM was an alternitive to using meds on fish.
