It has been a battle with my tank since it was moved 3 years ago. This time last year I had the dreaded diano because I was doing everything I could to bring parameters down. Didn’t take long to figure out that was a mistake.
Then I added nitrate and phosphate to grow algae and get rid of the diano. It worked! With some water changes, the numbers started looking better with the exception of the phosphate which, until recently was really high. My most recent check last Monday was as follows.
SG 1.025
Temp 78
Nitrate 5
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0
PO4 0.03
Ca 400
Mg 1400
Alk 7.8
Ph 8.2
I had some orange bam bam zoas that we’re taking off and doing very well. Within the past two weeks they have been smothered with hair algae. I did a 25% water change yesterday and one last week. Any ideas what the problem may be? The montis seem to be doing well and the mystic has actually spread more in the past couple months than it has since it was introduced in February.
I’m lost...
I also have an ATS that is growing lots of algae. The screen is pretty much full and needs cleaned within two weeks. I also have a pretty healthy stock of clean up crew in the tank 4 turbos and multiple snails of other types as well as a kloe tang who is always picking at the rocks.
Here are some pics of the corals. So far the only corals that seem to be suffering are the orange zoas. There was a small area of algae on the mystic monti that seems to have gotten better now.
Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe it's just me but those pics look like green coraline algae
Learn something new everyday! Lol. Hopefully that’s what it is, but the algae on the orange zoas appears to be hair algae and is smothering them. However, I have noticed quite a bit more purple coralline growth lately. Hopefully, given a little more time the ATS will take care of the algae on the zoas. I made the mistake of shutting off the water supply to it when I was cleaning the screen a couple months ago and had to start back from scratch. But it has been growing algae again for about a month. Just hope my problem is lack of patience instead of another tank dilemma.
What about the algae on the sand? Does green coralline grow on sand? I didn’t even realize green coralline existed until you made the comment.

I thought it was green coralline algae too, but then I saw them on your send bed too.
