Hello,

I’ve been dormant for a few months now after failing, for a third time, to keep acros in a nano 17g tank.

I’ve since decided to get back in it with a new tank build. Instead of sticking with the 17g, I’ve decided on a Red Sea reefer 250, 65g system.

Going from 17g to 65g has some challenges that I could use some help on:
1-Do I need to consider my flooring? Tank will be on my first floor, assuming my foundation is concrete. I’ve got carpet right now, but anticipate going to hardwood floors once the carpet needs to be replaced (3-5years?)
2-Transfering old tank contents to new tank. I need to keep this tank where my old one is now. Any tips on filling the new tank? I’m planning on putting everything in 5g buckets, moving everything into position, then mixing the new water in the new tank.

3-These tanks come drop shipped. While I expect that they will come to my house, I’ve read stories where they don’t. Anyone here have experience getting a tank like this to their house? I don’t have a truck, just a two door sports car and a smallish 4 door. Neither can hold something this size.

Thanks,
Matt

Hey welcome back for a reef vacation!

You good right now with the carpet
Transfering, that is about the only thing you can do, unless you save your water change waste water in a large tube with a circulating pump so the system will not be as stressed with all the new water
Pick up, rent a truck and Homedepot or Uhall:)

My worry is that I’ll have to rent the truck and potentially not need it if the delivery truck actually comes like it’s supposed to. I read a few stories where the guy was waiting around for his tank, only to be called by the driver letting him know they didn’t feel like coming to his house. The guy wound up high and dry since he couldn’t get a truck arranged in time to go find the delivery truck driver.

I guess my question is more looking for personal experience with this sort of thing. I found a licensed seller for Red Sea in my town, but the guy was completely out of his mind, so not trusting this schizo. The guy thought he knew me, then accused me of stealing his identity and ruining his life?!?!

Anyone ever have to change their floors after setting up a larger tank?
