Hey everyone,

So I finally decided to upgrade the reef tank and got myself a Red Sea reefer XL 525. In the past, I’ve run mostly innovative marine tanks and my most recent tank is a lagoon 25. The system has been up for about a year now, had one significant move, and has been doing well until recently. I had back to back trips, and one of which I severely broke my ankle/foot so i have been neglecting the lagoon during my recovery (about 8 weeks). I have it on auto water changes on the Neptune, but the DOS stopped working and it took me a couple of weeks to get it back up and running as my mobility was severely limited and the DOS is located down in my basement.

Here’s the plan so far... I’m going to move the lagoon down to the basement sometime this weekend. I’m finally at a point in my recovery where i can lift things and move so now seems like the right time. Next week, ill set up the 525 upstairs and get all that sorted. I’ve been cycling the rock in a Brute 42 gallon (or whatever they are) garbage can for about 3 weeks and may or may not move it into the reefer within the next week or two to complete its cycle depending on how the set up goes (i also have another trip coming up so i might wait until after that).

The problem that i’m having and the reason for my post is that in my lack of maintenance on the lagoon, i had a small crash a couple of weeks ago. Didn’t lose any fish but i lost quite a few of my corals. Since the crash, i have had an outbreak of Aiptasia and bubble algae. I plan on breaking down the lagoon at some point in the near future, cleaning it out entirely, and setting up a IM fusion 40 that i have in the basement in its place as a quarantine tank. So after that lengthy description of where I’m currently at, whats the best approach to move the remaining coral and livestock from the lagoon 25 into the reefer without transferring the aiptasia or bubble algae? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
