I have a 210 gallon bowfront that's been up for 6 years. Aside from a saltwater tank I had in the mid 90s when I was in college this was my first real reef tank.
I made a lot of mistakes, but recently have dialed everything in and have steady coral growth and the fish I have now have been doing well. Parameters pretty stable.
So now I am wanting to upgrade to a tank that doesn't have some limitations I'm dealing with due to the tanks footprint. ITs 34 inches tall and the room under the stand is limited and I have alot of stuff outside the stand. Tank was plumbed by LFS and I wish I had plumbed it differently. I considered re-plumbing and revamping the current tank but the "final straw" is that my tank is starting to accumulate some scratches in the glass.
SO... My biggest issue is that the tank is on tile floor. Since installing the tank I had the tile changed so the tile under the tank is not the same as the tile in the rest of the living room. I want the new tank in the same place. Logistically I need to break down the tank, place all livestock in some other tank(s), tile the floor, let the time set and do the grout, then set up the new tank, then restock. PLan for rubbermaid stock tanks for temp hosing but what kind of filtration would they need? HOB filter? protein skimmer? or just flow with liverock from my tank?
I know its not ideal, but any body done something similar? The tile really increases the complexity and messes up a one day project into several days.
