Well its been a while since I've done any sort of update - truth is that I sort of fell out of love with the tank for a while. I confirmed LCA dinos in February of last year, and what followed was a protracted 9 month battle of dosing silicates literally every day, along with trace element corrections and a reduction in photo period. Basically no new livestock or corals while I was treating the dinos, and the reduced lighting period meant that the tank was pretty much lights off when I got home from work.
Thankfully, I managed to beat back the dinos, and to this day they still havent returned so fingers crossed.
Anyway, did a BIG maintainance clean of the tank yesterday (and into today) and treated myself to the red sea skimmer upgrade, and a red sea ATO (LFS threw in a reefcan too, which was awfully nice of them).
So far the skimmer seems to be doing its job, and the self leveling thing is working well - but its still very much early days. Same with the Red Sea ATO - no issues so far, and I loved how easy it was to set up.
Equipment in the sump other than the upgraded skimmer hasn't changed - I've added some ceramic filter media to the front and return section but nothing else.
My little cabinet had to have a small redesign to accomodate the new controller, but thankfully I had desgined this with future upgrades in mind, so had plenty of space.
I do LOVE that the reefcan takes up such a small footprint, and that I can tuck it into what was previously just dead space.
The rockwork had its final redesign earlier this year, when I began addings corals again. I suffered no losses during the dino outbreak, rather the Kenya Trees and GSP seemed to actually thrive and have come to dominate the left side of the tank. Its difficult to see from this photo, but I built a little bridge out of epoxy for the GSP to migrate onto the back walls, which has worked perfectly so hopefully in a few months itll look like a football field.
The only new inhabitant is a Naoko Fairy Wrasse, all the other livestock are the same and also survived the dinos. Sadly its coming near time to rehome my Foxface, as he is getting just a little too big for the tank now. I've already decided to replace him with either a Helfrichi Firefish or a Longnose Hawkfish - but I've a few months yet to decide.
Coral wise, its all been Zoas - with the goal of completely covering the two rocks on the right side. The most elaborate purchase was a 3 head GMK frag - which thankfully is growing well, and is up to maybe 9 or 10 heads in the space of about 3 months. I'll probably get around to removing those mushrooms from this rock at some point once I need the space back for more zoas.
Maybe I'll get better at coral photography one day...
Anyway thanks for reading, I'll drop into this thread from time to time with any significent updates/additions!
