Preparing for a upgrade, I'm having hard time deciding how to handle the changes. Upgrading to 75 from 45, I'm switching to a special grade fiji pink sand not transferring old , and ordered 60lbs of dry rock. I have around 50 pounds of current rock in the reef not to mention a existing filter system of skimmer, refugium and algae scrubber moving over to it. Given I move all the current tank water and then sum, should I expect casualties in the coral and fish? I might be able to let the new system sit in place for a day to allow the sand and rock to settle

So glad you are doing a rip change if you'll update your thread w pics we'd enjoy linking it up. Detritus is your whole risk. Hidden unaccounted for detritus and not much else

Isolating and reacclimating housed animals will prevent fish and coral loss given good health before the task.

People fear disturbing a sandbed, so they act in partials but there's the risk right there...working around the stink bomb without disturbing too much

We did opposite

We removed sensitives first and the diaper last

Thread says attack the detritus all at once... never partially, and your bacteria simply stick in place despite all the rinsing even if tap is used on the sand.

Replace yours is good call. Fresher the better

Your cleaning time is a detritus intercept time you can literally remove all detritus all at once and move everything over and skip the entire cycle, exactly as bringing cycled live rock home from the pet store is an option and is done. Or just the same way people move fully cycled reefs into a MACNA show with no three week cycling time.
