Hello so I am planning on upgrading my tank to something a bit bigger and was wondering what recommendations were for substrate right now I'm using crushed coral. I have been reading quite a bit and see some people don't recommend crushed coral and say use fine sand and some say stay away from fine sand and use crushed coral so I'm trying to decide what my better choice is

Thanks Tony

It's personal preference i use a coarse sand. The fine stuff moves around too easily with current for me and the large crushed coral is just too big

The sand I use in my tank is Carib Sea Arag-Alive Fiji Pink. It is somewhere between a fine and coarse sand. Carib-Sea has many different sands though and you can also check out Marcos Rocks, they have aragonite sand from the Bahamas and it has little chunks of shells and corals in it so its sort of like a mixed sand. http://www.marcorocks.com/sand/

My next tank will use this sand and rocks from Marco Rocks, just because I like to support Floridian businesses and they have great products :)

I went with the coarser sand for my latest build and I am very happy with my choice.

I was debating on using pool filter sand I had used it once before in my freshwater tank and it's really nice it's a course type sand,, what are the feelings on that has anyone done this before

I would not recommend using pool filter sand. It is probably quartz which is not supposed to be good. I would recommmend using aragonite .... that is sand made up of calcium carbonate. It is the same material that makes up dry or live rock. Some people like the fine stuff. I have a mix. Mine is mostly on the coarse side of fine with some coarser stuff in the high flow areas.

What are the thoughts on re using saltwater from my current tank in my upgraded tank should I start completely fresh or is it ok

Also should I clean my live rock before re using it
