I currently have a 300 with 8 tangs and various other fish. I will be upgrading to a 450 this summer. Does anyone have suggestions on a temporary holding tank to house the fish while I make the transfer. It will probably take me a few weeks to complete everything. I need to move the current tank and bring in the new tank in. I am looking for Ideas for a cheap way to temporarily house the fish. I do have a few smaller tanks like two 55's and one 90 but I feel these tanks are too small for large tangs.

Depending on your budget and available space, you could set up a lagoon, of sorts, using a 300 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. I believe they are a hair under $300. That could leave your existing 55's and 90 to use for QT'ing MORE TANGS to add when you're up and running. Always more tangs...

I wonder if the vinyl they use to make these kids pools would be nontoxic and safe to use?

While never having used one myself, I have seen a thread somewhere of a dude who had a lagoon built into a kiddie pool like that in his garage. I've also seen them used for Koi. Having no experience with them myself, though, I can't say for sure. Personally, I would, but I'm a nut job. That being said, if you go that route, perhaps reach out to the manufacturer to see if it ships with any kind of coating or chemical to aid against drying or cracking that might be harmful to your specimens.

Oh... something I just thought of. If you do go this route, you may want to also invest in a vinyl patch kit too. Couldnt hurt to have on hand, just in case.
