Hi, I started running tank water through the NFP509 deltec nitrate reactor last night at a rate of 1drop every 3 seconds. The reactor had been set up and fed 2ml 50/50 vodka/. 4 times a day via a peri pump (as per D-D instructions). The tank water appears cloudy today though and I was wondering if I should stop the water going through the reactor? The pH is stable at 8.09 and the mv in the reactor is -196. Thanks Di

According to D-D website it says to reduce carbon dosing if tank cloudy so reduced it to 1ml 50/50 vodka/ro four times a day instead of 2ml.
Do you think this is ok?

Probably means either the vodka is escaping the reactor and driving bacteria in the main tank, or the flow is high enough to sweep out a lot of bacteria from the reactor. I would not stop the reactor flow. Cutting back the vodka sounds reasonable to try, but the cloudiness is not likely any significant concern and may go away as bacteria build up in the reactor.

Thanks for your quick reply. As long as the cloudiness isn't going to cause any harm to the livestock that's great. Phew!

Just tested nitrate in reactor effluent which was 0.2 on salifert test kit. Would you suggest leaving flow rate of water through the reactor as it is at 1 drop every 3 seconds and dosing the reduced vodka/ro dose of 1ml x4 daily?
