At a lost for words. A few days ago my ATO dumped an extra 5g into my sump and caused my skimmer to overflow. I did a substantial water change (35%) right away, and then proceeded to clean out my sump. The following day I did a small (10%) change. Things seemed stressed, SPS browned out.. Get home to an all white tank tonight. All tissue gone, just future live rock..There are a few LPS/softies hanging on hanging on. Setting up a 20g to move the pieces to.

I'm sorry to hear about your tank. I haven't started my tank as I am still researching but I'm sure that must be everyone's biggest fear.

Good luck getting the tank re-established.

How much water volume do you have total, and how long had it been since you cleaned the skimmer?

Neither of those two events should have been enough to cause the death and destruction you describe.

+1 and also how long had it been since you cleaned the sump/ what all did u do... I am wondering if maybe this may have even caused a mini-cycle which coupled with the other issues may have pushed it over the edge.

It was a cascade of little issues that led to this. 2 months ago I re aquascaped for better flow. I soon started using Omega/Amino in the foods and target feeding and had started washing my filter socks. Two weeks in with the target feeding there started to be some signs of stress with some of the sps. A little more reading showed that it was probably the amino/omega in the food. I had started doing small daily water changes (1-2g) daily. And then I had a very busy week at work so I hadn't cleaned my skimmer in a week. I run it alittle more on the dry side, I get so much "mud like" skimmate. Well, all of it went back into the water, the skimmer looked like I had just cleaned it. Drained the sump completely and wiped clean. It seems that the sponge before my return is the culprit for causing my ATO to constantly freak, it did it again last night after I had cleaned it on sunday. It has been removed and burned as a sacrifice. (removed but not burned really) I've set up a 20g to move the remaining corals in to, small skimmer and a hang on filter. I have a small PC 50/50 bulb in a clip light, not sure if that will be enough light for everything. This weekend on the DT I'll remove 90% of the sand and replace, and rebuild the DT. 30lbs of oolite and 20lbs argo, both dry. Not sure what else to do...

Gosh, that is horrible... I'm so sorry for your loss; I hope you're able to stabilize things soon!
