From what I understand, fish aren't bothered by nitrates and some corals love a "dirty" tank. My nitrates are high, have always been high but everything is happy and growing so I try not to stress. Put a fish in there, no more than 2 for the bio load to deal with, maybe even just one at a time unless you get a pair.
