TANKED gets 10 more shows for 2012

Great, I am running out of things to record and watch, this is awesome, I like the show, and believe it or not my 5 year old loves watching it and then going to the Reef store down the road and naming the fish. Cant wait to see more

Just got back from Vegas ///Brett gave me a tour of the ATM warehouse ..they had some huge tanks they were working on ..very nice aquariums.. going to order a 10 ft tank for the front of our store .. great job on the show , and congrats on the new season.. Guy Griffin Fishy
Business..

I for one do not like the show I believe it gives people that are not familiar with saltwater fish keeping the wrong impression on the correct way to start and maintain tanks.. example almost all of the shows they are in resemble the same crap on true tv with the tow guys arguing all the time and what not always over dramatic. i have not even herd one time about cycling the tank or any of the technicalities involved with starting or maintaining it. they basically show that if you want a saltwater tank just throw a hose in to the tank ( which I actually seen in one episode ) and add fish.... what a poor way to mentor curious enthusiast and show light in to the hobby. They do not show any of the filtering options or the way to operate them. Neither do they evaluate the options or what is on the market. I believe they should show all of the things involved with starting and maintaining a saltwater tank from FO full reef. Another thing a lot of people do not understand is lighting and PAR and PUR values the different spectrums and nano meters.. well I could go on and on thats just my opinion

Though I agree with you, you have to remember the show is made for entertainment, and not educational purposes.

+1

Though I've heard just like on this forum and others that they don't like the fact or lack of them of how an aquarium works. But like posted above its a tv show and as for me, when I don't like the show I just change the channel. Unless your a hobbyist, the interworking and cycling facts wouldn't interest the general public. What tv station wants low rating? Think of your own tank.
How excited are you when you get a limited edition coral or rare fish or the skimmer of your dreams! I know I am but how many times can you count when Non tank people over and the first thing they fall in love is the (insert censored word) green star polyp and pulsing Xenia that over grows your tank. Ahh! Lol it drives nuts. Then I just turn on just the blue LEDs and voila! Everyone is memorized by the "pretty colors". So any info I tell them goes in one ear and out the other.

Or even that show sons of guns they don't show the math and measuring of the gun parts. Testing of the bullet trajectory or even velocity. Unless your a geek like me who still thinks it would be cool. I remember the last time I talked about math and physics it didn't get much attention. I think it's the explosion or gun shot that keeps the viewer attention.

I use to joke with a friend of mine who hated all the NASA space shuttle shows. Because they didn't show all the work put in to it, like the equations it took for launch and how they were derived. He's an engineer to show ya where jes coming from. But I used to tell him unless your "you" lol not many people would understand the complex equations.

Anyway I'm excited to see the show. :xd:

Well said!

my grand mother always said if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all .. I love the show,, its great for the hobby ,, and might help to bring some of the kids away from the computer to do something real .. its up to the lfs to help people learn how to take care of aquariums not some tv show .. and if the show was bad they would'nt be getting a second season ....TANKED ROCKS

TANKED is a great entertainment show - not so much in the 'learning / educational' aspect. As experienced aquarists, I think we can learn some things from the guys because we already know what's involved with the background work. I like the show and will watch it to see designs, fish, and other ideas to use.

As for 'its (sic) up to the lfs to help people learn', that's the scary part - there is more MISinformation in LFS's because their goal is sales :-( I know there are stores on both sides of the aisle (good & bad), but I've heard wayyyyy to much bad advice that I generally don't bother asking anymore. New aquarists - WE need to make them aware of forums like this or our local clubs !

the average aquarist never takes the time to look for clubs or forums ,, and bad stores don't stay in business long ...with out the lfs this hobby would never have grown ,,, and tanks aren't easily sold over the internet ... most Every one has a job and tries to make sales .. so whats wrong with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
