I am no longer renting and have bought a house now and planning to get a new tank. This house has hardwood floors and the wife has thrown a flag on the play until I can promise the hardwood floors will be ok. Should I have worries? How do I deal with a tank on hardwood floors? Do you guys put anything under the tanks to pad and prevent dents from the weight? Water changes I assume will have to be careful with. Any hints or tips?

We have a 180 and a 45 sitting on bamboo hardwood floors. We don't have anything but floor underneath them. About a year ago, we had forgotten to turn off the rodi hose and left it running in the sump all night. of course the next morning woke up to a flooded living room took a lot of towels and wet/dry vac to clean it up but the floors are fine.

I just finished putting pre-finished oak hardwood down in the room for our 180 and I have dropped plenty f water on them with ZERO issues. Ihavent flooded it at all,but you should be good.

And if you are ever out of town and had saltwater on them for an extended period of time, all you would have to do is sand it and refinish it. Hardwoods are great for saltwater tanks!

I have hardwood as well..... I have only dropped a little saltwater on mine. No issues thus far.

I have hardwood, havent had any issues and I have had a couple major spill/floods. Hopefully your floor has a proper expansion gap so if it does get wet it will not permanently bubble up. I do have a piece of felt moving blanket under neath my stand that is used to slide the stand into place without scratching the floor, just left it under there when I was finished and cut it to shape with some scissors. You could always lay out some lenoleum when doing tank maintenance if super worries about getting the floor wet, then roll the lenoleum up when finished.
