Any one know if there is any ill effects from switching from AF reef salt to the Probiotic? I just got my order in and they sent the wrong salt.. packing slip has reef salt but thats not what they packed.

Depends on your reef, type of corals you keep :) The Probiotic salt will most certainly drive nutrients down, and as long as you only change 10-15% I see no harm. Keep in mind the Probiotic Salt has bacteria, carbon source, vitamins, and aminos. So large changes I would air a word of caution. Cheers

8.0 dkh,
420 cal,
and 1410 for mag. Brand new saltwater....mag is a little high from what they ingredients say it has but I don't think it's too bad....the dkh and cal are right on

What test kits did you use, and did you check multiple times or with different kits to rule out any errors?

Perry i have a 40DS with a 15gal sump. Mix reef of sps, lps, nps, 2 clowns, coral beauty, 6 line and three chroma. I have Zao and carbon in one reactor, gfo in another. I donse 123, NP and pro bio S. My typical change is 10gal weekly so dropping to 8gal what should i watch for in this change and should i be ok with the prbiotic salt after i start to introduce it or should i go back to the reef salt i have been on?

Ok now I'm testing it with red sea test kits. 7.8 alk,
450 cal
Mag 1600?

Retested mag and same result.....not sure what to think of this...what do you guys say?

And is the calcium regent supposed to have white specs in it?
No the reagents should be clear. Are you dosing the tank? Are your reading out of the mixed salt before its going into the system?

Frankly I have not ever tested in the mixing bucket, I test in the system. If there were an inconsistency with a batch of salt I think this thread would lite up with other concerned. One thing I have noticed from batch to batch is yes Ca, Mg, Alk fluctuate a bit not that much. Take a same to your LFS and have them test it. Make sure the sample is at 75 degrees, that is what I would assume AF test at per AF recommendations for a mixing temp of a batch of salt;)

The mag on my last 2 buckets of AF reef salt were 1600 using a salifert test kit, thought I was going crazy. Much higher than the mag values on the supplied data sheets. Salt was mixed at 35 ppt.

I'm not sure why. I'm taking my water to a friend's tonight to check with his test kit. But I did get a reading of 1480 for the third test...amd I did a salifert test and it was around the 1400's

Just made 10g of water using RODI and AF Reef Salt. Used Salifert and Hanna to test newly mixed SW. Salinity 1.025 using Milwaukee digital refractometer.

Alk - 7.4 dkh (Hanna) 7.6 dkh (Salifert)
Cal - 462 (Hanna)
Mag - 1500 (Salifert)

Hmm...very interesting finds. Mag is still off though... :/
