Red sea, brand new....just got in this last friday

I just ordered the probiotic reef salt by aquaforest was using the rea sea brand but decided to swap... Does this sound like a good plan ? Ive heard great stories about growth using aquaforest. I have mainly a ton of LPS.

As far as I understood u put in one drop at a time, and shake the vials after every drop for 15 seconds then u do the last 5 and then the regent

I switched from redd Sea and have not looked back.

I started to introducing AF, starting with 1+2+3+ in January 16 or last year. With the change in parameters being steady and the color of the corals coming alive in 2 week of use, I switch over to AF all together.

The probioatic salt will run your nutrient levels down to a ULNS if that is what your looking to do. I was using Red Sea coral pro salt when I switched and now I am running with the AF reef salt. I run my nutrients on the higher side. Running the 1+2+3+ will help with your parameters and also with your trace elements.

Yea My nutrients are in the higher range also.....Im not exactly sure what you mean by the 1+2+3+ process. So I shouldnt just swap straight over to using the probiotics right away?

I stopped the redsea system and started aquaforest and my NO3 and PO4 shot through the roof. I put a lot of stress on some of my corals and even lost a few of the more sensitive ones. I don't know what AF would say but I would do the transition very slowly.

Just a note but I use the entire AF system from stacked reactor to tons of bio media and all their probiotics and drops. I think I've finally turned the corner and my tank is starting to feel better. Hopefully in the coming months the change will pay off.

Are you using the probiotic type or the regular AF ? also what types of corals do you have in yours? Mine are mostly LPS...

For LPS tanks for start you can use Reef Salt.

I use the regular salt because I do atuomatic constant water change and the probiotic salt doesnt do well with this. My tank is mostly SPS about 1 year old. Colonies are pretty small still around 3-4 inch.

Just take any changes slow. I think that's the big lesson I keep learning over and over in this hobby.

Ok, so tested my test kit on friends tank, he tested the new saltwater amd compared both amd it ran 1600 mg. Why is it so high coming from the salt?

Please make sure and mix salt at 33ppt, or 1.0249, then the values that are indicated should mimic the spec sheet included, assuming water is at 77 degrees F. Ensure the fracto is calibrated, then please include tested values. If mixing with S.G. at 1.026, that would most certainly mix with higher values, whether it be Ca. Mg, or Kh. FWIW, 1.026 is a shade under 35ppt, which would likely be 2ppt above mixing, as a FYI. Thanks
