I personally have never ran into this issue but I suppose if I had it I would just worry about the calcium and alkalinity and not do a water change until my magnesium level dropped enough to warrant a water change.

The only time I've ever had a true magnesium problem was self induced. I dosed magnesium itself by hand and over shot the amount that I put in due to my own boneheaded mistake by not doing the test right.

On the Red Sea kit when it tells you to add the 5 drops and mix for 15 seconds I did just that.

Your supposed to add 1 drop and mix for 15 seconds, then another drop 15 seconds.... etc.... etc...

That's what I did wrong.
I started with that and corrected myself...

I would like to test a theory for me please. Test our RO/DI water with your kits. Just the RO/DI please:)

This is before I add the last regeant....I'm assuming that means there's 0 mag in the ro

The issue with this is if I dose components I'd be adding mg with the calcium.....so no idea how it would affect dosing...

Here you go @domination2580 I tried to do my best to show you a false positive and the actual test that I do. These test are done with Red Sea Test kits.

This is a false positive test
The is the real test

Great videos ! Thanks for making them!

Just an FYI ...

I'll be making a video in a few days showing how to mix your own components +1,+2, +3 using the Aquaforest premix jugs, all additives needed and amounts to add.

Ok so what does that exactly mean?
The false positive will test different but our result were the same. blue. One always want to go back to zero to figure out what the issue is.

So how am I supposed to get a reading for mg?
take you measure from the bottom of the plunger like in the video. Take the amount and subtract from 100 and look at you card. Boom, reading:)
