@Aquaforest do all of these tanks do regular water changes or are people using aquaforest balling 1+2+3+ with no water changes?

I find people that are successful both ways. Personally I do 10% weekly.

I still don't quite get the whole balancing thing....alk not move for a certain time frame? If it didn't moved then doesn't that mean your coral are not growing?

If the tank was not consuming, like no shift per day, without dosing alk, then correct on your statement. I did not tweek my program as regularly as you would think, I was absorbing 230ml per day of each fluid. This did not move for months, nor did my alk test readings. What you would likely see, is every so often a gradual drift downward on alk. So, if you test several months at 6.8dkh for example, and let's suppose you test weekly, and your test revealed 6.6dkh, this would be a sign that you need to tweek your program. This shift is slow, and several months can go by without a need to adjust or tweek the program, even with visible signs of growth. Cheers

Thank you for that help! Well it seems my calcium has been dropping about 5 ppm more in the course of a week....so will have to tweak that. But with a salifert mag test kit, my mag is down to 1200....but with the brand new af test kit it's reading 1500....I have tried testing different times, multiple times, and different days to kind check on user error.... but not sure on this.... the test I did with the reference solution was reading I believe 1410 but the solution says 1310

I have been using Aquaforest components 123 for almost a year. I recently purchased a GHL doser and have been dosing equal amounts on all 3 for 5 weeks. I have my Alk where I want it but Calcium is low. I have to supplement Calcium to maintain it. I mix my on components. Can I adjust the mixture and increase the calcium and still maintain Balance ? If so whats your recommendation on the Calcium recipe?

Absolutely, simply add 5-10% more, then run a test, adjust accordingly and keep track of alterations to the recipe. Cheers

Some amazing tanks here. I have a 300 sps tank and am running a calcium reactor with some mag added. I’m wondering if it’s possible for me to do a partial AF system w my calcium reactor ? For ex add micros or aminos... I have large fish and feed decently but compared to the tanks here, i have a ways to go.
My levels are all decent w phosphate at 0.04 and nitrate at 10. I can cut back on the feedings to lower those some more.
I have a decent sized chaeto section and am running ati t5 with reefbrites.

You could run some Life Bio Fil in the sump to bring down the nitrates and phosphate minus for the Po4. As far as other product with a calcium reactor I would suggest just mixing up a little 3+ and dosing that only.

what would a reefer do with his spare time if he didn't do water changes?i've been addicted to af 1-2-3 for 4 months now and I will say my sps lps have never looked better or grown faster.if you are looking to switch to af 1-2-3 look at the video on how to mix your own on r2r.buy the ingredients make your own and save a lot of $$$$$$$$$.it's only about $75 for all the ingredients you need to make several 5000 ml (1,2 and 3 ea.) batches of component 1-2-3. at brs.

Link?

Thanks I was just about to come back and edit my post to say I stopped being lazy and searched and found it ha!

Just so your aware also you can have the magnesium portion of the mix in either the component 1 or component 3.

The original version had it in the component 1.

The new version has the magnesium in component 3.

It doesn’t matter which way you make it. You use the exact same amount either way and everything else stays the same. [emoji6]

Thanks I've never used it always made my own randies recipe so shouldn't be too difficult. Think I want to give the af products a go for my new build. I don't know if there much more expensive here in Australia than in the us but from a local source it would cost me $108 every 10 days according to the af recommended dose. I was originally thinking of halving the dose and using randies to make up the difference atleast in my alk, calc, and mag consumptions. This diy version may help the back pocket a bit more aswell!

Perhaps I’m missing something but why would I need 3+ if it has salt mag K and B? If anything, it’s looking like I may need 1+ without the calcium according to their website. Sorry, if I am misunderstanding, I never used this

All elements are considered salts, even Mg, Ca. The salts that are used in the 3+ is the mineral salts/trace elements link. I was suggesting since you are dosing Mg and would like more color, just dosing 3+ would be a good path.

It all depends what you fill in the Ca reactor.

If the fill in does not contain any microelements then you can use component A,B,C.

Alright so if I have reactor as well as some magnesium in it (I’ll stop adding magnesium if the AF products contains it), I should add 3+? My tank (300g)is mostly sps. Just want to make sure before I purchase and overdose on something. Looks like I should be adding 275ml of it daily?
