Do any of you guys have a reef tank in your garage, if so, how do you control the temperature in your garage?
I would love to expand my hobby into the garage!

I've run several successful tanks in my garage without issue over the years. You have to have a chiller, there's really no way around it.

I ran a system for a long time that had a 120g tank in the house plumbed to another 120g or so worth of frag tanks in the garage. It originally had a 1/3hp chiller but I upgraded to 1/2 to handle it more efficiently. I ended up taking that system down just because of workload at my job and phasing out of the selling/fragging side of the hobby. It ran perfectly fine though for several years.

I currently have a 30g tank in the garage just as a place to put extra coral I don't have room for and as a fish quarantine when needed. I have a 1/4hp chiller on it and it hardly ever runs. I estimate I'm spending about $20/mo in electricity to have that spare garage tank and it stays perfectly even at 80*. Trying to run it much cooler might not make sense.

Hope that helps,
Ed

I’m not in Florida but my garage sees 120*+ in the summer. I have a 180g display, 60g refugium/frag tank, and a 60g sump all in the garage. It’s a MUST to have a chiller, but other then that all you will need is ventilation. I have a little floor vent that seems to work just fine for me. Also, with so much water in my garage, my tanks actually keep the garage cooler then before even though the chiller is putting out hot air. They almost balance themselves out, but if you don’t have good ventilation you will get mildew/mold and your garage tracks may start to rust.

Not the best picture but you get the point. That’s my massive chiller mounted on the wall.

A local vendor of mine has his tanks in his garage and they do phenomenal. As long as you can keep them somewhat cool I think you would be fine. A portable air conditioner and chiller would probably do the trick
