Yes if designed and constructed properly. Can a stand for 100g or less be built out of 1x4 or 1x6 also considering that the stand will be skinned with plywood?
I have a 75 that's been sitting on a caninate that's built completely of 1x6 and 1x8 joined and edge glued. No nails. It's been there 6 years. The 1x idea gives you more room with a lighter structure. As pointed out design is what will make it work or fail. If you have the skills and tools you can build it. If not, the 2x option is a better oneInstead of 1x skinned with plywood, I would go with using only 3/4" plywood. For the same width it's much, much stronger than normal dimensional lumber and more forgiving due to it's strength to design and construction flaws. You can also frame a 3/4" and skin over it as well.
Of course you can use the 2x4 or 2x6 lumber stands as there are plenty of examples. The 2x still isn't as strong as the 3/4" ply but it's close enough and all designs double up the 2x as well for key load bearing sections.
1x dimensional lumber could be strong enough but it's going to depend on how you design it, where you double up to take the load and how you reinforce joints to ensure no torsion stress collapses the whole thing. I think the design to make it work would end up costing more than just either 2x or 3/4 ply.
