Does anyone have input on Planet Aquariums? Good, bad, any info would be appreciated. Gonna setup a new 180 gallon mixed reef. Thanks in advance.

I got my tank from CTC since its local for me so can't say from personal experience. However, planet aquariums is a reputable dealer and ive seen there work- top notch

Thats a good size tank!...What kind of tank (eurobraced, braced, rimelsss?) and how thick is the glass? What kind of water turnover do you plan on having in the tank?

The brand is Planet Aquarium, euro braced, not 100% sure of thickness. I think it is 1/2 inch. As for turn over i am gonna shoot for 10 times, so approx 1600 gph to 1800 gph. I figure the tank is 180 gallon minus whatever the rock displaces so I may be able to turnover even less. Going with a DC pump that way i can control/adjust the flow rate. I will also have some wave pumps to move the water around also.

I have 3 Planet Aquariums. One is 60"x30"x31" and eurobraced with 1/2" hybrid glass/acrylic construction. I have nothing but good things to say about the quality of their product. The finish work on the tank is excellent. However, I am not a fan of the look of a eurobraced tank. But I do recognize the strength it provides. So I ended up covering the eurobrace top with a wood trim.

The dimensions of your tank will make a beautiful mixed reef. Good luck!

Troy, I really appreciate the feedback. I also really like the look of the trim around the top of the middle tank, great idea. Beautiful tanks by the way.

Thank you

I am going to build a open top canopy that will cover the waterline and light spill. I don't think I would allow myself to go with anything else other than a Eurobraced tank.
This picture is from about 3 months after setup but you get the idea of why a canopy would solve my light spill problem.

Beautiful tank.

Ashish, that is a nice tank. I see what you mean about the light spill. I am not a huge fan of the look of Euro bracing but I definitely agree with the added strength it provides. I am contemplating on weather or not I want a canopy or just hide the Euro bracing like Troy V did in an earlier reply.
Thanks for the input and ideas.

Thanks! Eurobrace is good for a number of reasons but the true test for a tank is after 10 years. Eurobrace is probably taking a lot of pressure of the 4 panels and seams. Anything we can do to strength the tank outweights any negatives. Also, after 7 month I can't really say I have any saltcreeps.. It also prevents water from splashing out even with a 2" wave. The negatives are all cosmetics, I want to cover the light and waterline but also want to add a cooling fan on the tank and cover that. I used MDF board to cover my stand and will use same material and paint it. I don't intend on spending more than $20 on the canopy
