Hello,
I live in Scotland, UK. I have just bought a HM TDS meter and tested my tap water today, and it shows a TDS of around 25ppm. Is this common?

I am looking to start a reef tank and wondering if I can just use the tap water without an RODI since the TDS is so low?

That’s how low the TDS is for me before hitting the DI canisters! I’d still recommend some kind of RODI to get the TDS to 0. The benefit of your TDS already being so low is that it would take a long time before the filter media is exhausted in a 4 stage unit

Thought I could get away without using one for the first 2 years of my tank. Vancouver's tap tds is 12ppm.

Always had some type of brown algae on my sandbed until I switched over to RODI. Within a couple months the sand is so clean and white now

I have 900 TDS coming from my tap.

Been using RO shop water with 4-10TDS, not sure if this is ok as it has been fine for a year already with no coral issues.

But if purchasing an RODI.. which RODI Unit do you guys recommend?

25 TDS is really low out of TAP which is great.

If you grow softies only, I'd just use conditioner to remove chlorine, thats assuming there is no chloramines in the water.

If you grow SPS, then yeah get an RODI unit.
