Been out of the saltwater hobby for a while. Gonna start a 40b. I've heard people mentioning not using tap water any thoughts?

First welcome to R2R. Only thought on tap water is not to use it. Get yourself a RODI unit and get off on the right foot. Most LFS's sell both saltwater and clean RODI water as well, if you're not in a position to get your own at the moment.

Here is an example of a great little system at a great price. Even comes with a replacement set of filters and a TDS meter.

Welcome to reef2reef! No tap water, at the very least go to the store and pick up some ro water. Good luck

Welcome aboard! Tap water is like putting mystery water in your tank and hope it will succeed. At least go with ro water. Done it in the past with no major issue. Guess I got lucky lol
