Ive recently got my 200 gallon in! I would like to fill it up with tap water at first and attempt to purify it some way.

I was thinking run some polyfilter, Seachem cuprisorb, aluminum oxide for silicate and iron oxide for po4. Then use some rox.8 activated carbon.

Would this be effective? Tap water is city well water at 600ppm.

I have an ro unit but it will take like 10 days to fill it and make a lot of waste water.

Will this just be for a leak test and then draining it? If so, just fill it with tap, let it sit a while, and drain it. All good.

No id like to use it too for initial fill hence using the binders. Then id use the ro. Copper is .01mg/l plus copper pipes. Id guess its probably not a good idea to use well water and should just get a new ro/di lol im so impatient

Probably the cost of all those binders i could buy a new ro/di...

You have answered your question. Plus think of all the possibilities that can go wrong by starting with tap water. IMHO not worth the chance. RODI all the way. At 600ppm TDS that is some water with lots of minerals and stuff probably not found in the ocean and to think you will clear it up with other products still sounds like a big chance for something bad to stay in.

Exactly. Fwiw i filled it with rodi. And fwiw the tank cracked a few months ago. And fwiw lol i have a reef pond now. Fujny now im using cuprisorb and metasorb in the tank. :)
