So just out of curiosity I tested my tapwater with my hanna checker and got .96 ppm. So for any of you using tapwater and battling algae now u know why.

Tapwater can vary greatly from location to location. Also, there is city water, well water, springs, and I've even seen people pumping water out of roadside ditches.

My well water read .5 on my api test. 10mins from where im at use to be phospate capital(mount pleasant) no way would i use tap water knowing what i know now. And sure my api test isnt very accurate.

My well reads 0.02 with my Hannah checker.

Water treatment facilities may add phosphate to tap water to prevent pipe corrosion and reduce concentrations of heavy metals in drinking water. Tap water is chemically treated with chlorine, soluble silicates, phosphate polymers and many other chemicals. In addition, the source water itself may contain a variety of contaminants, including phosphates from fertilizer and manure on eroded farmland and from laundry detergent accumulating in sewage runoff.
