I've decided to be a bit more diligent with my coral feeding. I bought some Reef-Roids and target feed the few corals I have (hammer, torch, lobo, sponge, and some other stuff I just can't recall names).
My Questions: What is the little stringy stuff that floats up from the corals after the pumps come back on? Should I leave the pumps off longer than 5 minutes so they can absorb (eat) the Reef-Roids?

Thanks for your observations -- Gene

It's the mucus and food getting blown off the coral. I leave my pumps off until I see that they're done. Usually 15-20min or more if I want to wait for the chalices. My duncans and trachy will eat in under 10min but others take longer.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll increase the "down time" of my pumps. I notice the mucus coming up from the torch and hammer mostly. Of course, I also feed them mysis shrimp. Not sure they even eat the Reef-Roids.

I feed reef roids exclusively to all my corals and they are doing great. I make mine like a paste and feed them that way. They eat it and swell up so i know they are fed.

Yup, everyone gave some great advice. I usually leave my pumps off for about 15-20 minutes also. It is interesting to see how even my blastos colonies eat at different rates.

When I turn my pumps back on a bunch of detritus gets sucked up and spit out into the display which the corals LOVE right after getting reef energy mix

I turn everything off, feed, then keep flow off for 20 minutes. Then I turn on the return to get some flow but keep the powerheads off another 10-20 minutes. Certain corals (acans) eat fast. Chalices take forever.

But them Chalice at night..... “show me how the piggies eat” EE7D0E0A-4C54-429C-B4E4-BB00A593EC34.jpeg
