After reading through many of your posts daily I decided I should finally start a thread. I got into the reefing hobby about three years ago. I started with a small 20 gallon fish only tank and a year later decided to get an emax 170. For two years it was pretty much fish only. A year ago I started adding zoas and some star polyps and just when things were starting to look good I found a crack in the bottom of my tank! A real bummer but luckily I was able to get a new tank under warranty (only paid shipping) and LAX aquarium was kind enough to store my rock/fish/corals in their tanks while the tank was down.

While my tank was down I was browsing the forums and I got bit by the SPS bug. Now all I can think about are those dang color sticks. Got my emax 170 up and running again, put in some nice frags I got from Mr. V and things are starting to look good. Fast forward to today (about 4 weeks) I decided I need a bigger tank, more stability, more flow, so I went all in. This tank will be an SPS dominant tank mostly inspired by Mr.V. If you havent, make sure you check out his 45 and 100 gallon threads.

Here is my build list so far
  • Reefer 425XL
  • Vectra m1 return with hard plumbing
  • 2 Kessil AP700's
  • Bubble Magus D8 skimmer
  • Neptune apex
  • 2 apex WAV
  • apex DOS
  • apex ATO
  • Chaeto reactor

Starting with all live rock (Real Reef Rock) and live sand.

Everything is currently being assembled at my buddies warehouse and will move to my apartment tomorrow or thursday. Here are a few pics of the assembly so far.

First off welcome to R2R!

And starting off with a reefer series tank is a pretty good choice!
