Hello everyone,

Found this guy this morning eating a clam I just introduced to the tank last night. Never saw him before and tank has been setup with TBS live rock for a few months now. Hoping to know if he should be canned or kept. Thanks :)

Probably wouldnt keep him if you plan on keeping any clams.

Well crabs are scavengers so if they don't have enough food they'll eat whatever they can get their claws on...if you should keep him is dependent on what you plan on keeping...

Howdy there,
Hope your system is doing well.

Juvenal stone crab. Sump it.
Question: are there stone crab juveniles with black tips to their legs and claws? I have something from y'all's rock that's about this color, maybe 1/3" across, and has white tips on everything.

OP, what a neat crab! Very cool sump monster to have.

He is getting HUGE! I don't have a sump unfortunately it's a 32 biocube AIO. Not sure what to do with him :/

Perfect excuse for a second tank. :D

You could temporarily put it in the filter chamber/overflow section of the bio cube? That’s a great place to add rubble rock, btw. It can nibble food bits that get through or you could target feed it.

Black tips tend to mean gorilla crab. Stoney juveniles tend to be dark like OP photo.

*Email J a photo of the little guy
