I have the brs unit with deluxe di. And when i fill its 0 tds coming from the unit. And i tested it by getting a small cup, and get a sample and its 0 tds. However when i fill my bruce trash barrel. I get 2 tds and if i let it sit with a wave maker with no salt till the next day its like 5. Is that like probably left over salt from the previous mixing? And is it safe to fill my tank with thar water?

it is more than likely left over salt from any water that did not used out of the container. It could also be a bit of clay or similar left over from mixing the salt. Some salt brands leave a little residue that will show up once you get the container full of water.

Understandable i that bruce trash container its food grade, i dont think its leashint anything. But is it safe to use that water now since its 5 tds? Im new to the saltwater game, and im going to be filling my tank tmw.

If it was me, I would use the SW without issue. The only thing that would stop me is if it was a new can and I was getting a tds reading after adding RODI to it. If it has had salt mixed in it before, 99% sure it is just residue from for the previous batch mixed.

I just filled my 55 brute up last night with RODI and transferred that to the mixing 55. For giggles, just tested TDS in the mixing 55 and it is 12 with no salt added yet. Here in a bit, I will add the salt and let it mix. All it takes is a little water left over in the brute to create something that may read on a tds meter. Water evaps and salt is left. Heck it could even be some precip from calcium. Biggest thing is to clean a mixing container from time to time, but again, if it has been used for SW mixing before, I would use it.

Thats the importance of an INLINE TDS meter right there - Like Randy says, i wouldnt even bother measuring TDS once its exited the unit. No need. That measurement is easily skewed. As long as youre getting what you see fit from the inline meter then its perfectly good.
