If you have tested saltwater with your TDS meter you have contaminated the meter. Get a gallon jug of distilled water and soak the meter probes in it for awhile then change the distilled water and do it again several times to get the gunk off the meter.
Most TDS meters register up to 999, new saltwater is going to be somewhere over 32,000 so many times higher than the meter is designed to test. Clean it up with the distilled water until it reads 0 TDS in distilled then using your squeaky clean glass you soaked it in test your tap water TDS. Draw a glass of tap, stick the meter in and wait for the reading to stabilize, write it down and triple rinse the glass and meter in distilled or RO/DI water. Next draw a glass of RO only water before the DI, again let the reading stabilize, write it down and triple rinse again. Finally get a final RO/DI sample directly from the DI, insert the meter, let it stabilize, write it down, do a final triple rinse and put the glass away upside down do it stays clean and make sure the meter is capped.
What are the three TDS readings?
